The Coastal Ferry Act mandates a role for the Regional District of Nanaimo in the nomination process for the Board of Directors of the BC Ferry Authority. The RDN is seeking expressions of interest from qualified individuals who wish to be considered for appointment to the Board of the BC Ferry Authority for a three year term commencing April 1, 2018. The RDN, in collaboration with the Regional Districts of Comox, Strathcona, Powell River and Alberni-Clayoquot, will be nominating individuals to the BC Ferry Authority to fill one position on the Board.

What is the BC Ferry Authority?

The BC Ferry Authority is the sole voting shareholder of BC Ferries. The responsibilities of the Authority are set out in the Coastal Ferry Act, and are as follows:
  • Appoint the Board of Directors to BC Ferries
  • Establish Compensation plans for the directors and certain executives of BC Ferries

Who can apply?

A nominee must be a "qualified Authority Candidate" as defined in the Coastal Ferry Act, and must comply with provisions related to director qualifications and conflicts addressed in sections 8 and 9 of the Act. Appointments are also guided by a selection criteria established by the BC Ferry Authority Board of Directors (this is appended to the application form as the "Skills and Experience Profile").
