French Creek Pollution Control Centre

Wastewater from approximately 27,000 people in French Creek and the surrounding service areas is treated at the French Creek Pollution Control Centre (FCPCC). Wastewater is gravity fed and pumped via 3 major pump stations - Bay Avenue Pump Station, Hall Road Pump Station and Lee Road Pump Station. FCPCC also has a septage receiving site that accepts septage from residential onsite (septic) systems and wastewater from pump-and-haul clients. Effluent is discharged into the Strait of Georgia at a depth of 61 m, 2,440 m offshore.

The FCPCC uses Secondary Treatment to remove 94% of BOD and TSS. To learn more, please visit our Treatment Processes page.

Major Projects & Improvements

2009-2011Upgrade and forcemain twinning at the Lee Road Pump Station
2007-2008Installed Solids Contact Tank and Trickling Filter, replacing activated sludge
2005Commissioned fourth digester, increasing plant capacity
1999Odour control strategy implemented
1994-1997Upgrades to double the plant's capacity and improve the quality of effluent and Biosolids
1990Morningstar Golf Course (adjacent to the treatment plant) started accepting final effluent for irrigation. During the summer months over 10% of the flow leaving the treatment plant is stored in lagoons at Morningstar Golf Course before being used for irrigation
1977Built using Secondary Treatment with activated sludge technology, ending the discharge of raw sewage to the Strait of Georgia
