Disposal Alternatives

RDN Solid Waste Facilities are designed to manage and dispose of materials that cannot be reduced, reused or recycled. Save time and money by checking these alternatives before bringing materials to the Regional Landfill or Church Road Transfer Station .

RDN Recycling Directory

This on-line directory shows where you can recycle or safely dispose of items ranging from appliances and building materials to paint, pesticides and yard and garden waste.

Recycling Council of BC Recycling Hotline

Provides information on how and where to recycle and dispose of oversize and other unwanted items. Ph. 1-800-667-4321 (toll-free)

Nanaimo Recycling Exchange

Accepts a wide range of recyclables, residential yard and garden waste (fees apply), household hazardous waste (paints, solvents, used oil etc.), used computer equipment and clean reusable household items. Ph. (250) 758-7777

Oceanside Nanaimo Freecycle

Provides a listing service where RDN residents can post free items that others can use.

Gabriola Island Recycling Organization

Accepts a wide range of recyclables and reusable items. Ph. (250) 247-9257

Electronics Stewardship Association of BC

Provides information on where to return used computer equipment, TVs and fax machines. Ph. 1-800-330-9767 (toll-free)

Alpine Disposal & Recycling

Accepts drywall (gypsum) and clean wood waste (fees apply). Ph. (250) 755-1161

Porter Wood Recycling

Accepts clean wood waste (fees apply). Ph. (250) 248-3693

Steel Pacific Recycling

Accepts scrap metal, appliances, wood and other materials (fees may apply). Ph. (250) 716-0047

DBL Disposal

Accepts asphalt roofing, shingles, cardboard, concrete, construction/demolition salvageable materials, drywall (gypsum), yard/garden trimmings, hot water tanks, metal, wood/lumber. Ph. (250) 741-8923
