Septic Care and Maintenance

On average, onsite (septic) systems may last 25-30 years. Eventually, all systems need replacement. Provide proper care and maintenance of your onsite system to make it last as long as possible.

Household Information Kit

The SepticSmart Household Information Kit is designed to help residents understand the importance of monitoring and maintaining their septic system. By using the information in the kit, you can keep your system working properly for years to come. This will protect human health and the environment and save you money too.

Download the SepticSmart Kit and Brochure.

SepticSmart Kits are available for RDN residents at SepticSmart Workshops, or the RDN office.

For more information, visit our FAQ page.

Locate your septic system

The Provincial Ministry of Environment has a brochure entitled How to find a Septic Tank which helps homeowners to locate their septic system components.

If you do not have a copy of your onsite sewage disposal system site plan, you may be able to get a copy by contacting the Vancouver Island Health Authority office in your community.
