In response to the changing role of transit in the region, the RDN and BC Transit have developed a Transit Business Plan that was adopted by the Regional Board in July 1998.
The Transit Business Plan involved a comprehensive review of existing transit service and extensive public consultation with all transit user groups. The plan includes enhancements to transit services within the next two years and options for the next five years with accompanying budgets and strategies to achieve transit objectives.
The Transit Business Plan includes tools to measure levels of service, cost, ridership, and revenue. The plan focuses on improving efficiency. Future transit improvements concentrate on those services that have the strongest markets and highest productivity. Work and school commuters have been identified as key transit markets.
Transportation Services supports the Regional Growth Management Plans and local Official Community Plans. Transit Service will be focused on areas within the Growth Management Plan's Urban Containment Boundary and structured around Town Centres.
