Oceanside Place

View the Summer 2010 Schedule

Oceanside Place officially opened on October 6, 2003 after years of anticipation by many in District 69. Main features of Oceanside Place include two NHL regulation size ice sheets named after two local ice skating legends and heroes, Howie Meeker and Victor Kraatz, a Leisure Ice sheet named the Oceanside Pond, multipurpose rooms, a meeting room, a concession, skate shop and the main offices for the RDN Recreation and Parks Department.

The facility is attached to Wembley Mall which is located between Parksville and Qualicum Beach on Highway 19A. Designed and built by RG Properties, the Regional District owns and manages the facility that is Vancouver Island's most unique ice facility. The facility, with its three ice sheets and open-air atmosphere, has quickly become a popular facility for residents of Oceanside as well as visitors to the area and has won two provincial awards since opening. In 2004, the Recreation Facility Association of British Columbia awarded the facility with the 2004 Outstanding Facility Award and in 2005, the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association awarded Oceanside Place with the Facility Excellence Award.
