Community Involvement

Electoral Area Planning Projects
Village Planning Project - Electoral Area 'H'

Public involvement is key. Here's how you can get involved

Area 'H' Village Planning Advisory Group

The Advisory Group met regularly throughout the project to confirm and prioritize local issues, act as information sources for both the community as a whole and staff, and help to guide the village plan preparation process. Interested residents, landowners, and stakeholders all participated in the advisory group. The Village Planning Advisory Group took part in a series of public meetings to:
  • Assist with providing information to and answering questions about the process from the broader community;
  • provide/present information at the General Public Events; and
  • provide feedback on Draft Village Plan(s) for the Bowser Village Centre.
A special thanks to Village Plan Advisory Group members who devoted many hours to attend meetings and other events.

  • Public Consultation Opportunities Throughout the Project

The Area 'H' Village Planning Project work program included a comprehensive public consultation program, where RDN staff worked with the Community through a series of steps:
    1. Establishing a set of sustainability principles to guide the project.
    2. Discussing what these principles mean in the context of the Dunsmuir to Deep Bay areas, and in the context of village centres and village planning. Considering questions like what is working well? What isn't working as well? Why?
    3. Looking at solutions/options.
    4. Preparing plan(s).
    5. Incorporate results into the Electoral Area 'H' Official Community Plan/Regional Growth Strategy
At each step along the way, there were opportunities for the public to participate and share their ideas and thoughts. Community input guided the course of the project from the beginning to the end.

    Village Planning Project Office

Lisa Bhopalsingh, RDN Senior Planner for the Area 'H' Village Planning project, typically worked out of the Eyes on BC/ Beacon Office at Magnolia Court (6996 West Island Highway) in Bowser each Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to provide more opportunities for Area 'H' residents to drop in and talk about the project.

Please note that the Project Office is no longer open and the Village Planning Project is complete.

Project Shelf at the Bowser Library

A copy of the Bowser Centre Village Plan and the Electoral Area 'H' Official Community Plan is located at the Bowser library for reference.
