Current Flooding in the RDN

Reports of flooding are coming in from all areas of the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN). Rumming Road in Lantzville and Area E has been closed due to the landslide and evacuations have occurred. Emergency personnel are on the scene and the situation is being monitored closely.

Portions of Martindale Road in Parksville and Area G are closed, and portions of Melrose Road in Whisky Creek are closed. For safety reasons, residents are advised to not drive through standing water until road conditions can be assessed. In general, the weather has stabilized. The rainfall warning for the Parksville and Qualicum Beach area of the RDN has been lifted. However, the rainfall warning for the Nanaimo area is still in effect but precipitation has been light for the last several hours.

In response to the flooding, an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has been activated to monitor the situation and provide information to residents as required. EOC staff are coordinating logistical and operational efforts with other government agencies and local emergency services personnel.

"Emergency personnel are responding quickly to support those most impacted by the extreme rainfall," said Chair Veenhof. "The RDN will continue to support emergency personnel in their efforts and provide resources, support and information to the public to ensure the safety of our communities."

Sandbags and sand have been delivered to the Coombs and Dashwood Fire halls and are available to the public.
