QUALIFICATIONS FOR NOMINATION (RDN Director or Islands Trust Trustee)

Candidates shall be nominated in writing by two duly qualified electors of the Electoral Area (Regional Director) or the Gabriola Island Designated Area (Islands Trust Trustee). At the time of filing the nomination documents, the candidate shall also file a written disclosure as required under the Financial Disclosure Act.

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older;
  • resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office.
Nominations for qualified candidates will be received by the Chief or Deputy Chief Election Officer at the offices of the Regional District of Nanaimo, 6300 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo, B.C. between the hours of 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, the first (1st) day of October 2002 and 4:00 p.m. on Friday, the eleventh (11th) day of October 2002 and during that period the nomination documents shall only be received on regular office days and hours. Nomination documents may be obtained at the Regional District of Nanaimo Administration Office during regular business hours.
