Mt. Hayes Evacuation Alert Cancelled

The joint Evacuation Alert issued by the Cowichan Valley Regional District and the Regional District of Nanaimo for addresses on Takala Road, David Road and Ivey Road has been CANCELLED. BC Wildfire Service has confirmed that the Mt. Hayes wildfire is being held and the imminent risk of danger to life and properties in your area has diminished at this time.

Thank you to all who have contributed to the wildfire efforts and continue to do so including:

  • BC Wildfire and their crews for responding quickly to the initial fire and continued efforts to contain the fire
  • Volunteer firefighters & search rescue members, Mainroad Mid-Island Contracting and the RCMP for supporting with door to door notifications, security, traffic control and check points
  • Residents and local business helping each other with food, evacuations and sharing communications
  • Regional District of Nanaimo Emergency Operations Centre and Cowichan Valley Regional District Regional Emergency Operations Centre for their support and communications
