RDN Wildfire Update

Nanaimo Lakes Wildfire

As of this morning, the Nanaimo Lakes wildfire remains active and is 25 per cent contained. The fire size is currently 179 hectares, and the growth of the fire on August 8th was mainly towards the north. There was minimal growth towards Nanaimo. There are 55 firefighters, 3 helicopters and 18 heavy equipment and fire management staff working on this fire. The Evacuation Alert remains in place and Nanaimo Lakes Road and Nanaimo River Road remain closed at South Forks Road. There is no Reception Centre set up at this time, but the RDN's Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) continues to support operations. In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Lacy Lake/Beaufort Range Wildfire

The wildfire burning near Lacy Lake in the Beaufort Range, north of Port Alberni has grown to 10 hectares in size overnight. Today, firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment are working with several fire departments on this fire.

Thames Creek

The wildfire west of Bowser at Thames Creek has been contained.
