Open House for Electoral Area 'H' Community Plan Review
and Active Transportation Plan

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is holding an Open House to invite feedback on the review of the Official Community Plan and to "kick off" the creation of an Active Transportation Plan for Electoral Area 'H'.

"I look forward to hearing what residents have to say about the direction this Official Community Plan review is taking so far, as well as engaging the community in a discussion about active transportation," said Bill Veenhof, RDN Chairperson and Electoral Area 'H' Director. "Many people have said they would like more cycling and walking routes, as well as safety improvements along the highway."

The Open House wraps up the "explore issues" phase of the Official Community Plan review and presents what the community has said about changes needed so far. The Open House also "kicks off" community engagement on creation of an Active Transportation Plan. The RDN is working with active transportation professionals to develop a plan that will identify how to make it safer and easier for people to walk and cycle in their communities.

The Official Community Plan Review launched in January with a community survey and public meeting. A volunteer Working Group made up of community members has met several times this spring to further explore the issues and opportunities raised by the community. Residents are invited to drop by the open house any time between 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm on Wednesday, June 22 at the Bowser Legion, 7035 Island Highway West. For anyone who cannot attend, all the information from the open house will also be available online.

An RDN planner holds office hours every Tuesday from 9:15 am to 12:00 pm upstairs at Magnolia Court, 6996 Island Highway West, Bowser.
