The Regional District of Nanaimo, in collaboration with BC Alliance for Healthy Living and BC Healthy Communities, approved Community Play Grants to support improvements to public play spaces in District 69. Recipients of the Community Play Grants are:
  • School District No. 69 (Qualicum) - $15,000 for playground repairs at Arrowview Elementary School, Bowser Elementary School, Errington Elementary School and for the installation of disc golf equipment at Nanoose Bay Elementary School
  • Parksville Lions Club - $10,000 for the purchase of outdoor fitness equipment at the Parksville Community Park
  • Nanoose Bay Activities & Recreation Society - $5,000 for the refurbishment of the gymnasium floor at Nanoose Place
"We are very pleased to be working collaboratively with the Ministry of Health and its partners to improve play spaces in a variety of RDN communities," said RDN Chairperson, Bill Veenhof. "Improving the quality of our recreation facilities is an important factor in motivating people to remain active and healthy."

Funding for this project is provided by the BC Government's Physical Activity Strategy. The BC Alliance for Healthy Living, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, is leading the implementation of the Physical Activity Strategy Action Plan. This plan aims to support programs that get people moving and promote physical activity in BC.
