The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is updating the development cost charge (DCC) rates and associated bylaws for the northern and southern communities sewer service areas. DCCs are fees collected from developers to help fund the cost of growth-related projects, such as wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure. DCCs are regulated through the Local Government Act. The rates charged reflect the impact growth has on wastewater services – the larger the impact, the larger the charge. This helps ensure developers pay their fair share of the costs required to service new infrastructure. Two virtual information sessions will be held to provide background material on how the rates have been calculated and to obtain comments to be considered prior to adoption of the bylaw.
