Pursuant to Sections 464, 465 and 466 of the Local Government Act we advise you that public hearings with respect to proposed "Regional District of Nanaimo Land Use and Subdivision Amendment Bylaw No. 500.413, 2018" and "Regional District of Nanaimo Electoral Area 'F' Zoning and Subdivision Amendment Bylaw No. 1285.29, 2018" affecting properties in Electoral Areas A, C, E, F, G and H will be held:

What are the Zoning Amendments about?

If adopted, Amendment Bylaw No. 500.413, 2018 and Amendment Bylaw No. 1285.29, 2018 would amend existing zoning regulations to address recent changes made by the Ministry of Agriculture that permit gathering for an event on properties in the Agricultural Land Reserve classified as a farm under the Assessment Act. The proposed amendment bylaws include changes to setbacks, maximum site area and parking, clarification of defining terminology, inclusion of Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) conditions and expansion of the existing Temporary Use Permit designation to accommodate gatherings for larger events as approved by the ALC.

Where can I get more information?

A copy of the proposed bylaws and relevant documents may be inspected at the hearings or prior to the hearings until April 16, 2018 at the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) office located at 6300 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo. Please contact the Planning Department Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with extended business hours until 5:30 PM on Wednesdays.

The public hearings for these bylaws will be chaired by Chairperson Veenhof and Director Fell or their alternate as a delegate of the Board. All persons who consider their interest in their property to be affected by the proposed bylaws shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard in person or by written submission at the public hearings. Written submissions can also be provided in advance of the public hearings and must be received at the RDN office by 4:30 pm April 16, 2018 to ensure their inclusion in the public record.
