RDN Transit Service Changes to Route 25

As of Sunday, January 7, 2024, Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Transit riders can expect changes to the Route 25 Ferry Shuttle to meet the needs and improve connectivity for the public using various modes of transportation to travel throughout the region and beyond. This includes new service and stops to the Nanaimo Port Authority Terminal which is serviced by Hullo Ferry and Helijet. The new routing and changes are to align with the Regional District of Nanaimo's Transit Redevelopment Strategy to improve our transit services.

Highlights of the Route 25 Ferry Shuttle changes include:

  • New service to the Nanaimo Port Authority Terminal will match up with the Hullo Ferry three times per day, seven days a week. See the Rider’s Guide for the full time table.
  • Five extra trips daily will be made to the BC Ferries Departure Bay Ferry Terminal. To accommodate this there will no longer be service to VIU on this route.
  • New service is added along Northfield Road, where there was previously no transit service.
  • Service levels, which is the number of trips per day, will remain the same on this route.
  • To help improve service reliability through the rest of the transit system, the Ferry Shuttle will no longer wait for BC Ferries boats that are running late.
