Nominate your neighbour who's a Water Saver!
Contest on now

To promote outdoor water conservation this summer, the RDN's Team WaterSmart is launching a "Water Saver" campaign where residents across the region can nominate their neighbours who are going above and beyond to save water outdoors.

"The Water Saver campaign is a great way to recognize residents who are demonstrating water efficiency outdoors," said RDN Chair Bill Veenhof. "It's a positive approach to promote water conservation in our communities during the dry months when our supplies are most stressed and water demand is at its highest."

This campaign is intended to encourage water efficient practices - such as drought-tolerant landscaping, water-reuse, golden lawn, drip irrigation, rainwater collection, etc. - while encouraging people to meet their neighbours, learn from them, and have fun with weekly contest draws for prizes and social media recognition.

The nominee will receive an attractive yard sign that identifies them as a water saver and both the nominator and the nominee will be entered into a weekly prize draw. They will also be entered to win a rain barrel in the grand prize draw at the end of the summer. The contest will run from the first week of May through the last week of August, and is open to all residents in the region.

Keep an eye out in your neighbourhood now for yards that should be nominated for their water smart practices! You can start nominating right away. All you need to do is submit to watersmart [at] rdn.bc.ca (watersmart[at]rdn[dot]bc[dot]ca) a short description of the yard and person you are nominating, along with a photo, and you both will be entered into the prize draws. Forms and more information can be found at www.teamwatersmart.ca.

Did you know? May 1st - 7th is BC Drinking Water Week - a great time to learn more about where your water comes from and how to conserve it!
