Notice of Alternative Approval Process - Gabriola Island Community Health and Wellbeing Contribution Service Establishment Bylaw No. 1892, 2023

The RDN is conducting an Alternative Approval Process for the Gabriola Island Community Health and Wellbeing Contribution Service Establishment Bylaw No. 1892, 2023. Click here to view the Notice of the Alternative Approval Process.

Additional Information

A new Health and Wellbeing Service is proposed for Gabriola Island by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN). If established, the proposed service will work to coordinate and advocate for health and wellbeing services on Gabriola Island. This has been a community-driven process in response to feedback collected from community members through public engagement for the Regional District of Nanaimo Social Needs Assessment and Strategy (2021) led by the RDN.

A Feasibility Report was then completed in 2022, identifying options for the service and examining potential functions and costs. The Feasibility Report recommends implementing a paid position for a Community Health and Wellbeing Service Coordinator to support the coordination and delivery of health and wellbeing services on Gabriola Island.

The Alternative Approval Process runs from January 19, 2024, to 4 p.m. on February 20, 2024. Residents of Gabriola Island who oppose the health and wellbeing contribution service can submit an Elector Response Form during this time period, and residents who support the health and wellbeing contribution service do not need to take action.
