Septic Maintenance

< Return to Rebates Status: Open for Applications

To date, this program has given residents more than $116,000 towards the maintenance of their septic systems.

In 2018, the RDN is offering Septic Maintenance Rebates of:
  1. Up to $200 for installing or replacing a Distribution Box
  2. Up to $300 for installing Risers
  3. Up to $100 for installing an Effluent Filter
  4. $600 flat rate to replace a malfunctioning system
Bonus: up to $100 for 2018 SepticSmart workshop participants to "top-up" an eligible rebate

To be eligible, work must be:
  • For onsite wastewater treatment (e.g. septic) systems in the RDN
  • For properties which have not received a similar Septic Maintenance Rebate in previous years.
  • Performed by an "Authorized Person" as defined by the Sewerage System Regulation.
  • Performed between January 1 and December 14, 2018.
  • On pre-existing systems installed before January 1, 2018 OR to replace a malfunctioning system.
  • For an eligible category.
Note: New construction and tank pumpouts are not eligible for a rebate.

Rebate Amount

The RDN will rebate 75% of eligible expenses, to a maximum amount, for Category 1, 2, 3, and the Bonus. Flat rate for Category 4. A limited number of rebates are available. Submit a Pre-approval Application to reserve funds for eligible work for up to 90 days

Category Rebate Description
$200 maximum Replace or Install a Distribution Box with Speed Levelers (pre-existing systems only)
A properly functioning distribution box will maximize the effective lifespan of the drainfield by distributing effluent evenly to each line and prevent overload of any one line. Overloaded distribution lines may lead to a system malfunction.
2 $300 maximum Install Risers (pre-existing systems only)
Risers provide surface access to buried components. Risers make future pumping, inspection, and maintenance much easier. If you have risers, you have little to no digging to do hereafter.
3 $100 maximum Install an Effluent Filter (pre-existing systems only)
Effluent filters can prolong the life of your system by keeping solids out of the distribution field. Newer systems may already have an effluent filter. It is often possible to retrofit older tanks to house a filter. Important note: Effluent filters must be cleaned regularly.
4 $600
flat rate
Replace a Malfunctioning System
Applies to system repair and replacement with a value of at least $5,000. Verification of system replacement by an Authorized Person is required. Cannot be combined with a Category 1, 2 or 3 Rebate.
Bonus $100 maximum Combined eligible rebate maximum increases by up to $100 for 2018 SepticSmart workshop participants.
